US Forces Targeted a 'Big Facility' in the Venezuelan nation, Trump Claimed Without Providing Specifics.

Ex-President Trump has claimed that American forces hit a "large facility" in Venezuela last week. But, the former president offered no details on the precise nature or location of the strike, and officials have issued no further comment from his camp.

Unspecific Comments Made In a Radio Interview

"We just eliminated – I don't know if you saw – they have a big plant, where the vessels depart from. Recently, we took it out. So we struck them with significant force," Trump allegedly informed Republican donor and businessman John Catsimatidis in a recent interview.

Potential Significance of a Verified Attack

Should a US military action is confirmed, it would constitute the initial land strike since the US Department of Defense began a buildup of US military presence in the Caribbean region to disrupt narco-trafficking operations that the former administration alleges operate under the orders of Venezuelan leader Nicolás Maduro.

The initial mission of the military buildup has transformed into a blockade aimed at stopping the country's oil exports.

Social Media Footage and Official Statements

Trump has for weeks stated that US forces are poised to widen the operations by striking targets within Venezuela, a move that would theoretically require congressional authorization.

Video footage posted on social media on 24 December appeared to show an explosion reportedly from an industrial zone in a Venezuelan state. Yet, the footage or the facility has not been confirmed by third parties.

An official from Trump's team allegedly told a media outlet that the former president was referring to a narco-trafficking site in his remarks.

Response and Current Strategic Posture

The Caracas administration has not commented on the alleged strike Trump referenced. Furthermore, there have been no corroborating news from Venezuela about it.

The buildup of US military in the area – a position some have referred to as a sea blockade – constitutes the largest maritime enforcement action of the Trump era.

Officials have refrained from describing the operation as a blockade, but have stated that about 15,000 personnel are stationed across the Caribbean and the Gulf, including a aircraft carrier group, F-35 aircraft, and Coast Guard cutters to uphold existing economic sanctions.
