Suspect Bailed After Arrest In Connection With ‘Racially Aggravated’ Sexual Assault of Sikh Woman in the Region

Law enforcement investigating the sexual attack of a British-born Sikh woman in a racially motivated assault in the West Midlands have issued a new appeal for information from the community as a individual arrested in the case has been granted bail.

Key Information of the Attack

The victim, who is in her 20s, reported she was assaulted by two individuals while on her way to work in the area on the morning of September 9.

According to community representatives, the assailants reportedly told her: “You don’t belong in this country, leave,” during the attack, which occurred between 8:00 and 8:30 AM.

Investigation Update

A suspect in his thirties, detained on the weekend on suspicion of rape, has been released on bail awaiting further inquiries, authorities stated.

Detectives are continuing to appeal for information about the event, which is being classified as “racially aggravated.”

The woman is receiving support by officers, while investigators examine hundreds of hours of CCTV and conduct forensic inquiries.

Detectives are asking anyone who saw two white men in the location to contact them. Details of the suspects include:

  • One man with a bald head, heavy build, wearing gloves and a dark coloured sweatshirt.
  • The other dressed in a gray shirt with a metallic zipper.

Senior Officer a police commander stated: “We are working alongside key partners and we absolutely understand the concern of local people.

“We need the community’s assistance to provide details on who perpetrated this terrible attack. I can reassure that we are doing all we can to bring those responsible to justice.”

Reactions and Vigil

Hundreds of people attended a memorial on the evening of the incident to show solidarity with the woman.

One of the organizers mentioned: “There is a sense that incidents have increased in racism and we want togetherness.”

The woman has shared a message expressing gratitude to the community for its “love and support.”

She said: “I would never wish this on anyone. I was simply going about my day on my way to work, and the events have profoundly impacted us.

“Despite everything, my loved ones has been my rock and my community has remained steadfast beside me.”
