Novak Djokovic Delivers Caution to Jannik Sinner: Suspension Will Hang Over Him Like a "Shadow"
Novak Djokovic has cautioned Jannik Sinner that his three-month ban for doping will persist over his career like a "cloud" – while also questioning the scheduling of the sanction last year.
The Ban Explained
The Italian player served a three-month suspension in February 2025 after the World Anti-Doping Agency accepted his explanation that a banned anabolic steroid, clostebol, had been ingested unintentionally.
"That cloud will follow him just as the Covid controversy will follow me, for the rest of his, or my career," the champion remarked in an interview on Piers Morgan: Uncensored.
"It's just something that, it was so major, and when that happens, with time it may lessen, but I don't think it will disappear. There's always going to be a specific segment of individuals that will continually reference the incident."
Djokovic's Perspective
Djokovic expressed belief that Sinner, a regular practice partner, "had no intentional involvement", but he then scrutinized how the player arranged to serve his time without sitting out any major tournaments.
"There is the lack of transparency, the inconsistency, the convenient timing of the suspension coming between the slams, so he avoids skipping important competitions – it simply appeared highly unusual," Djokovic added.

"I really don't like how the situation was managed and you could hear so many other players, across both tours, who had comparable circumstances coming out in the media and complaining that it was a preferable treatment."
