Magic: The Gathering Releases 4 Commander Staples with Play-Doh Artwork
The popular trading card game has announced its yearly collaboration with the Extra Life charity, a fundraising program supporting children's hospitals. This year's initiative includes a new Secret Lair drop titled Secret Lair X Play-Doh: Squishful Thinking, which presents four popular Commander format cards with charming art based on the beloved Play-Doh modeling compound.
Meet the Featured Commanders
Greensleeves, Maro-Sorcerer first appeared in a Commander deck and is frequently used in land-based and ramp strategies due to its ability to generate token creatures. Polyraptor was first introduced in the dinosaur-themed set Ixalan block and is utilized not only in tribal decks but also in synergy-focused strategies that take advantage of its copying ability. Wurmcoil Engine and Academy Manufactor are both common in Commander decks—the former for being a timeless colorless value creature, and the second for its synergy capabilities.
Affordability and Charity Support
None of these cards are overly costly (assuming you no longer gasp at a $15 Magic card), but they represent appreciated reprints even for those not drawn to the colorful art. All four cards features the ability to create tokens, honoring the creativity that Play-Doh has inspired in generations of young fans. The company will additionally back the charity through a fundraising livestream on the streaming platform on Nov. 8, running from morning to 10:30 p.m. PT.
