Exploring a Unusual Steam Game Trial: Playing as a Turdy Character in a Mission to Arrive at the Toilet
Steam Next Fest is now live, and gamers have encountered a variety of engaging indie games. However, one stands out for its offbeat concept. Titled Unko Technica, this old-school styled side-scrolling game lets you play a protagonist that is truly a piece of poop trying to navigate to a restroom. As a fun fact, "Unko" is Japanese for "poop."
How you interact is easy to grasp: press a jump control. Across one hundred fifty levels, you'll face boss fights and unlock a shop to buy skins for your fecal avatar.
Plan your jumps carefully, since one mistake requires beginning again. Jump using floating orbs to hurl yourself upward, cross disappearing platforms, and touch switches to reveal hidden paths. Collect coins to purchase tougher game content in which things gets crazy.
Graphically, the demo shows off vibrant stages and catchy soundtrack. Its minimalist visual style with morphing geometric shapes could recall players of beloved games like Earthbound.
Although difficult to think of previous releases where you are a dung character, video games often incorporated scatological themes. For example, in Death Stranding, players make throwables from character droppings. Titles such as Palworld and Ark: Survival Evolved utilize dung as plant food. Naturally, this theme is present extensively in the role-playing game The Stick of Truth.
Despite its goofy concept, Unko Technica has already earned significant accolades, like taking top honors at Bandai Namco's GYAAR Studio in 2023. A playable preview is available at present on Steam, with the full game scheduled to launch on PC in the fall.
