Doris Makes Ireland Selection But Joe McCarthy Omitted

Returning manager the Ireland coach has included captain Caelan Doris in his Ireland squad for the autumn internationals, however lock McCarthy is absent.

Doris, who has not played since undergoing a shoulder operation in early May, recently returned to provincial training, with doubts lingering whether he will be fit to face the All Blacks in Chicago on 1 November.

Second row McCarthy, however, did not make the cut after failing to recover from the foot issue suffered during the opening Lions match against Australia in the summer.

In a mostly experienced squad, Leinster's Sam Prendergast and Munster's Crowley will once again compete for the first-choice fly-half spot. The number 10 jersey is remains up for grabs, as the two players set to play against each other for the first time in the upcoming United Rugby Championship match at Croke Park.

Ciaran Frawley is the third fly-half chosen as Farrell deciding not to calling up Leinster's Harry Byrne.

At scrum-half, the Ireland boss has selected Lions tourist Jamison Gibson-Park and Casey, who captained Ireland to the summer Test victories over the Lelos and Portugal. Additionally, there is a recall for the western province's Caolin Blade, chosen to club-mate Ben Murphy.

Robbie Henshaw, Aki, Ringrose and Stuart McCloskey form an experienced cohort of centre choices. Jamie Osborne is another option in the centres, but the youngster is additionally a frontrunner to cover for Keenan at full-back.

Wingers Lowe, Mack Hansen, O'Brien and Jacob Stockdale are named. O'Brien impressed on his national team debut over the summer with two tries apiece in the victories over Georgia and the Lobos.

Paddy McCarthy is the sole new addition in the Irish forwards. The loose-head prop has been in two of Leinster's three United Rugby Championship matches this season and played in the second string's loss by England in the English city previously.

The 22-year-old was included in caretaker coach O'Connell's summer selection, but did not earn a international appearance.

Southern province lock Ahern, who earned his first two caps in those matches, is retained, and experienced Northern province lock Iain Henderson is back after missing the summer matches.

Conan, who played in all three Lions matches over the summer, is set to deputise for the captain should the skipper does not regain fitness soon enough to play New Zealand.

The national team will meet in Dublin on Monday before traveling to Chicago on the following day.
